Depose France Carved Celluloid 1940's Brooch
Beautiful carving in celluloid of a courtier and his lady - a romantic scene set in a silver tone frame. These gorgeous carved celluloid brooches were produced in France during 1920's - 1940's. Many of them have the "Depose France" signature to the back, however unsigned versions as this is, were common during the Art Deco boom as the celluloid panels were also sold in bulk by French workshops to different jewellery retailers across Europe and North America ready to be mounted in to brass or base metal borders. Here we have a recent arrival from France with a romantic couple in traditional 17th century dress set against what could have been meant to be the Acropolis, so perhaps it was produced as a souvenir piece. There is the typical trombone catch to the back. In excellent condition, measuring 4cms x 3.5cms. Gift boxed by Vintageonline.
