Rhinestone & Emerald Green Gemstone Snake Vintage Necklace

A recent arrival from Estate Sale USA,  a special necklace with rhinestone snake motif.  Snake jewellery has slithered through history since ancient times and is still an iconic symbol of eternal love and protection today. From ancient pharohs to modern red carpets it is always considered fabulous style. A major force in the popularity of the snake in jewellery was the beloved Prince Albert who proposed to Queen Victoria with a ring in the form of a snake set with emeralds.  It is a style still very popular today.     I have no known provenance on this interesting necklace and although excellent quality, is unsigned. It suggests a European flavour with the rhinestones and green gemstones to emulate emeralds set in solid gold wash metal. Length of the necklace end to end is 46cms...to sit just under the collar bone.  Width across the snake centrepiece is 3cms. Drop from the snake to the hanging emerald glass gemstone is 5.5cms.   It is most likely a 1960's - 1970's piece, in very good condition, gift boxed by Vintageonline.
