Mid Century Silver Butterfly Wing Pendant and Chain
Butterfly Wing jewellery was designed by T.L. Mott in the UK during the 1920's when he first imported from Brazil, and then began farming his own Morpho tropical butterfly. The butterfly wings were then used to give an incredible iridescent blue background to his jewellery. Some times just the wings were used and he eventually began a process of reverse painting to the back of the glass frame so that a picture could emerge against the blue. This particular butterfly jewellery was popular from the 1920's until the 1960's and is now highly collectable. This butterfly wing picture has a beach scene painting and the overall size of the pendant is 2.5cms x 2cms. It is marked Sterling to the back. There is a 40cm length silver chain with efficient lobster clasp. Gift boxed by Vintageonline.
