Made in Austria Blue Rhinestone Vintage 60's Brooch and Earrings
Thanks to Daniel Swarovski who invented the modern rhinestone, Austria has enjoyed an enduring history of producing fine quality costume jewellery. As far back as 1892 he patented an electric glass cutter so that his factory could produce these wonderful stones in significant numbers. All the top 20th century costume jewellery producers went on to use Swarovski crystals, considered the finest and most brilliant available. Other Austrian manufacturers took advantage of these beautiful stones and a prominent Austrian costume jewellery industry evolved. Post war, during the late 1940's 1950's and 1960's Austrian jewellery was sent all over the world and is highly collectable today.
