G.D.Beatson 1950's Paua Shell & Silver Vintage Brooch
The New Zealand Paua shell or abalone became a popular material to manufacture jewellery during the early 1900's. From the 1940's until 1953 G.D. Beatson Limited based in Blenheim New Zealand produced beautiful jewellery from paua shell set in sterling silver. His signature mark of a bee along with the sterling mark is on this brooch. The New Zealand Paua shell is renowned for its incredible irridescence. This lovely brooch measures 4cms x 2cms. It is in very good pre loved condition with a firm roll over safety clasp to the back.
