Czech 1930's Vintage Filigree Brooch
A beautiful example of Czech workmanship from a time when Gablonz in Czechoslovakia was the centre of the universe for the manufacture and distribution all over the world, of this stunning and unique costume jewellery. The whole area in and around Gablonz housed the thousands of workers within the industries of glass manufacture, composition makers, production of many different coloured stones, metallic designs, press moulding etc. Often the buyers for large companies in the USA would go to Gablonz via Paris where they would collect information on the newest jewellery trends and take them on to place their orders with the Gablonz manufacturers. It is an interesting and colourful history ending in the tragedy of the second world war and eventually the extinction of the industry by the Nazis. There is nowadays some production happening and some of the older filigree elements being used, but nothing like the heyday of the 1930's period.
We are fortunate to have the legacy of this special jewellery distributed around the world. This is a particularly attractive example with a large fully faceted cyclamen pink central stone flanked by enamelling and sapphire blue small stones. There is 7 beautiful coloured stones hanging from the filigree centrepiece. Overall dimension is 7cms x 5.5cms. The brooch is in very good condition with no wear to the enamelling or stones at all. The original clasp to the back has been replaced with a later design with a roll over safety clasp making the brooch very secure. I am not certain that the 7 coloured stones hanging from the centrepiece are original to the brooch. They may have been added at a later date. Gift boxed by Vintageonline.
