Antique Lovers Knot Amethyst Paste Brooch 1800's

$135.00 AUD

Few things are as romantic as the 1800's, beginning with the romance of Queen Victoria and Albert. Queen Victoria was particularly fond of the snake emblem, and her engagement ring was in that shape.  Jewellery manufacturers had to keep up with demand from the women who wanted to share in the romantic Victorian look.  The lovers knot brooches became very popular during the later half of the 1800's and this is a lovely example with a central prong set amethyst paste stone centred in the snake like shape of gold lined metal often referred to as pinchbeck, or gold lined. Overall dimension is 4cms x 3cms with a firm C shaped clasp to the back. Now around 140 years old, it is in very good pre loved condition, gift boxed by Vintageonline.
