1980's Vintage Medusa Figural Brooch by Jonette USA
The JJ Jonette Jewellery Company was founded by Abraham Lisker in Providence, USA, in 1935 and started out as the Providence Jewelry Company. It was after WW11 that the name was changed to Jonette Jewelry. During the 1980's they produced their Goddess range and here we have the legendary snake haired Medusa. The story went that Medusa was punished for her misdemeanors by having her hair turned in to snakes. (She had been up to no good in the Temple of Athena with Poseidon !) It makes for a very dramatic story and here we have her made from brushed silver finished pewter. She has rhinestone cuffs, blue rhinestone hair, and the larger snake head above her has a red rhinestone eye. Quite substantial in size at 8.5 x 5cms. At the back we have the Jonette signature and a firm roll over safety clasp. The Jonette Jewelry Company closed in 2006. Gift boxed by Vintageonline.
