Victorian Antique Banded Agate Brooch 1800's

$120.00 AUD
It was in 1847 that Queen Victoria purchased her holiday home Balmoral in the Scottish highlands. From then on began a lifelong collection of Scottish jewellery often produced from natural stones found in the rivers of Scotland. Her love of Scottish jewellery set the trend for the following decades, and Scottish agate jewellery became the height of fashion.  This lovely Victorian brooch is a perfect example, substantial in size at 5cm x 4cms. A beautiful oval piece of polished agate in a crimped gold filled frame. There is a C clasp to the back. In very good condition, gift boxed by Vintageonline.
