Spanish Damascene Brooch
Here we have a sweet brooch which is a classic example of Spanish Damascene jewellery often referred to as Toledoware. The historic city of Toledo is world renowned for keeping this unique Moorish craft alive. The traditional artisan process involves hand decorating blackened steel or brass by intricately embedding and layering patterns with gold or silver foil wiring and here that process is combined with a distinct enamelled porcelain centrepiece. It is a small brooch at 4cms x 2cms with a traditional push in clasp to the back. A pretty brooch with a pink rose embellished on the porcelain centre and an engraved bird either side. The Toledoware was often brought back from Spain as a souvenir. In very good condition, gift boxed by Vintageonline.
