Gem Stone & Pearl Bead Necklace With Intaglio

An intaglio is a gemstone that has been carved from the front, opposite of the technique for cameos.  It has been around for a long time and the centrepiece of this great necklace is a large oval intaglio with ladies head. It measures a substantial 4cms x 3cms. Its colour is a deep shade of apricot. The beads themselves are a combination of faux pearls and gemstones which include amethyst and carnelian. Gorgeous combination of colours. There is a signature to the necklace "Susie M Australia" and my research tells me that Susie M was in business during the past 10 years and used a combination of vintage pieces as well as modern pieces to produce jewellery. She also imported beads and had jewellery made overseas. This piece was part of an estate sale, so no direct provenance. Length of the necklace end to end is 50cm ending with a strong gold tone lobster clasp. I suspect the intaglio is a vintage piece which has been originally combined with the beads.Its a quality piece with a bit of weight to it. Gift boxed by Vintageonline.
