Rhinestone Brooch by Madame Carven France

$65.00 AUD

The history of the House of Carven is a most interesting one. It began in 1945 when Carmen de Tommaso opened her first shop at 6 Rond-Point des Champs Elysee, Paris. She was a small woman who found it difficult to find the clothes that she longed to wear. It occured to her to produce her own clothing line and that is what she did.  During the 1950's she added her own costume jewellery line and designed jewellery that emulated the more up market lines of the period. This particular brooch does just that, with baguette shaped rhinestones combined with channel set clear rhinestones set in a free form pattern with an art deco look.

Madame Carven was highly successful in business and competed at the time with the likes of Chanel and Schiaparelli. Many high profile Parisian women were her customers. Although she retired in 1985 she led a full life until her death at the age of 105 in 2015. So this sweet brooch has history and is in good condition set in quality silver tone metal with both Carven and Depose signatures to the back.  Overall dimension is 5cms x 2.5cms.  In good condition, gift boxed by Vintageonline. There is a firm roll over safety clasp to the back.
