Antique Miniature Portrait Pendant
Research on this pendant shows the highly publicised figure of a young gypsy boy who was obviously used as a model back in the middle of the 19th century during the Victorian era when there was much hand painting on porcelain. I suspect this pendant was produced a while later, perhaps as late as the early 1900's. It is set in a silver frame, and screen printed rather than hand painted. A gorgeous antique piece with a beautiful young man depicted. Overall dimension of the pendant is 3cms across. He is suspended on a more recently added silver chain. I wonder who he was, and hope he was paid for his modelling job. The chain measures 42cms end to end. The back of the pendant is exposed to show a tiny handle which was probably used to hold while the painting or screen printing was completed. There are pendants with the same handsome guy set in silver or gold, hand painted from the Victorian era available today. A little bit of history in very good condition, gift boxed by Vintageonline.
