Joseff of Hollywood
Joseff of Hollywood Vintage Brooch
Joseff of Hollywood created costume jewellery for many of the biggest films and movie stars of the wonderful Hollywood era from the 1930's through to the 1960's. From a breathtaking "topaz" bib necklace first worn by Ona Munson in the 1941 movie "Shangai Gesture" to Elizabeth Taylor's fabulous Egyptian jewellery in "Cleopatra" and so many others.
He perfected a gold tone metal finish that he used in his jewellery that would not reflect the lighting of the movie sets. This particular brooch is unusual with a large ceramic disc printed with a romantic scene surrounded by a frame of intricate metal leaves and embellishment with faux amethyst at the top and bottom. Truly beautiful.
Because Joseff produced jewellery for the era of the movie he was working on, I wonder which period piece he had in mind for this design. Many of the movie stars bought jewellery from him as well.
This is a large brooch at 8.5cms long and 7cms across....quite a statement piece The ceramic centrepiece is printed on the back with the no. 23, and there is the Joseff of Hollywood signature. There is a firm roll over clasp. A special one off piece....Gift boxed by Vintage Online.
