Original by Robert Designer USA Vintage Brooch

"Original by Robert" signed jewellery dates back to 1942 founded by Robert Levy although at that time it was named Fashion Craft Jewellery Company NYC.  In 1951 it was renamed Robert Originals Inc. During the 1940's and 1950's the production of quality costume jewellery was prolific including pieces produced for wearing in the films coming out of Hollywood. Joseff of Hollywood was a leader in the field of costume jewellery for films but "Original by Robert" was also highly sought after for films because they too had perfected what was called "Russian Gold" - a special gold tone finish that was perfect under the hot lights of the film studios. The designs often looked back to previous eras. 

Little is known about this particular brooch. It is in perfect condition, so has been cared for. There is a faux green gemstone surrounded by a frame of filigree gold tone. The back is beautiful with engraving and firm roll over safety clasp. There is also a hook bale so that the brooch can also be worn as a pendant.  Dimension is 5cms x 4cms. Robert Levy retired in 1975.  This brooch is likely to be a 1960's piece. The company passed to Robert Levy's daughter who re named her company "Ellen Designs" and it ceased to exist in the 1980's.
