Neiger Brothers

Neiger Bros Czechoslovakia Antique 1920's Brooch

$385.00 AUD

The Czech Republic is the birthplace of many world famous jewellery designers but none more famous than Max and Norbert Neiger of Jablonec, an area central to the production of glass and costume jewellery during the early 20th century, then called Bohemia. Demand for quality costume jewellery was great and as their business grew the Neiger Brothers employed more than two dozen employees.  Their wonderful and special jewellery was produced in brass, art glass, enamel, imitation jade, coral and a variety of colourful enamels. Being a Jewish family their life in Jablonec became dangerous and after fleeing from there to Prague they were arrested in 1941 and sent to Auswitz. An incredibly sad story. When I visited the jewellery museum in Jablonec a few years ago there was only a small display of their wonderful legacy. Now their pieces are sought after world wide. None of their jewellery is signed but research has been recorded and a comprehensive inventory of their stock has been shared.

This beautiful example is part of the East Asian range produced during the 1920's-1930's period., and shows that influence along with the Asian symbolism, faux coral and jade. Beautifully made and measuring 5cms x 4.5cms.  In excellent condition, with C shaped pin clasp to the filigree back.  Gift boxed by Vintageonline. For the lover or collector of vintage jewellery it is difficult to surpass the beautiful Czechoslovakian jewellery and the Neiger output in particular.
