Matisse Renoir
Matisse Renoir Mid Century Maple Leaf Vintage Brooch
The Renoir company began in Los Angeles, USA in 1945 and the Matisse company was added to their umbrella in 1952. Their innovative and unusual new designs were a welcome relief to a public that wanted something different. They used solid copper, and had an attitude to follow the Arts and Crafts movement which was based on quality materials and design mostly with a natural theme. Their pieces became extremely popular for time but the company hit liquidation problems in the early 1960's and ceased to operate in 1964.
Many of their designs reflected a fascination with plants, flowers, petals, leaves and stamens. This lovely naturalistic brooch was produced in the 1950's in a wide variety of enamelled colours. It is a classic maple leaf shape enamelled in green, with copper accents .It is in very good condition measuring 5cms x 6cms, with a firm roll over safety clasp to the back along with the Matisse Renoir signature.
