Hattie Carnegie
Hattie Carnegie Vintage Couture Triple Strand Mid Century Necklace
A beautiful authentic piece of American couture costume jewellery from mid 20th century signed by the esteemed company of Hattie Carnegie. Carnegie was famous for her innovative vibrant colour combinations and high end runway style. Hattie Carnegie introduced fashion jewellery in to her couture clothing line in 1939 and she was as popular in the United States as Coco Chanel was in France. Some of her jewellery appeared in Vogue magazine as early as 1927. After her death in 1956 the business continued until the 1970's when it closed for good.
While many American designers imported glass and resin beads from West Germany or Austria during the 1950's and 1960's, the beads imported by Carnegie were renowned for their colour and high quality. Here we have three glorious strands of blue and green beads in varying shapes and sizes, each separated by a small aqua coloured bead. There is the usual combination of glass and resin beads ending with the most fabulous push in clasp embellished with royal blue acrylic set in gold tone metal with the signature on the back. Length of the necklace end to end is 39cms, sitting choker length on most necks. It will hang a little lower on small necks. It is in pristine condition, obviously been well looked after since its production some time during the 1960's or early 1970's.
