Vintage Shell Cameo Brooch

Carved into shell, the figure of a beautiful maiden with a victorian style cap. Overall dimension is 4.5cms x 4cms. The production of shell cameos has been popular in Italy for many years, particularly during the 19th century. Mostly the figure faces to the right but in this case we have a left facing figure head, much more unusual. There is a looped rolled gold setting and frame with a firm roll over safety catch to the back. RG is imprinted on the frame - for rolled gold. In excellent condition, and gift boxed by Vintageonline.
