Wood & Lucite 1940's Hand Made Eagle Brooch
An iconic piece from the 1940's period. Carved wooden body and lucite wings. Lucite acrylic was invented by the Dupont Corporation in 1936 - a crystal clear plastic superior in quality with a 93% transparency rate resistant to water and UV rays. With the shortage of other metals (due to World War 11) that had traditionally been used in the manufacture of costume jewellery it became a very useful commodity for this purpose. This is a fabulous hand carved wooden eagle and his carved lucite wings are rivetted in to his body. Overall dimension is 9cms across his wing span and 6cm length. In excellent condition with a firm roll over safety clasp to the back which has a little wear commensurate with age. Manufactured in the USA. He is doing well for his almost 80 years.
