Wheat Symbol Vintage Brooch
Wheat has been utilized in the production of jewellery for hundreds of years. There was a strong revival in the late 1800's - early 1900's particularly in the design and shape of beautiful diamond tiaras and necklaces. It was also often used in mourning jewellery and there are some beautiful jet brooches with a whole sheaf of wheat engraved from the late Victorian period. This gold tone stamped brooch in the shape of wheat is likely to be from the 1940's period. Wheat symbolized regeneration, abundance, fertility, luck, and prosperity. Coco Chanel was particularly fond of the wheat symbol. She believed it brought her luck.
This lovely vintage brooch measures 8cms in length and 4cms across at the widest point. The wheat is enhanced with blue and terra cotta coloured enamelling. It is unsigned and from America. In very good condition with slight wear shown to the back.
