Vintage Damascene Bracelet, Earrings and Pin
Damascene art has been known for centuries in Egypt, Greece, Rome, Arabia and Japan. Around the XV century, the art work became popular in Europe and particularly Toledo in Spain which became a large centre of Damascene industry. It is the art of inlaying different metals into one another-typically gold or silver into a darkly oxidized steel background to produce the intricate patterns. Typically there are two types of patterns, the floral, and the geometric designs. I particularly like the geometric designs as they give an air of art deco design about them. This lovely set is certainly vintage. Each section is prong set and has been hand hammered. The bracelet has six sections each chain linked with a push in clasp and safety chain...will fit most wrists. The earrings are clip on and replicate the sections of the bracelet measuring 2cms across. The circular pin has a trombone clasp and measures 3.5cms. across. A divine set, in excellent condition, and gift boxed for giving.
