Victorian Lady Portrait Brooch
Before photography hand painted portrait miniatures were popular and were often set in gold and worn by the aristocrats of the day. Some times portraits were of royalty or popular ladies of the day, and other times family portraits. Eventually transfer techniques were developed and this opened up a market to the general public. This lovely Victorian brooch is an example of this with a head and shoulders portrait transferred to porcelain and set in a rolled gold twist frame. Overall dimension is 4.5cms x 3cms. In very good pre loved condition. Now over 100 years old. The camera has picked up some fine surface scratches which do not show in the wearing. Gift boxed by Vintageonline.
