The Red Boy Miniature Frame Vintage Brooch
The Red Boy was originally painted in 1825 by Sir. Thomas Lawrence in England. It depicts 7 year old Charles William Lambton whose Father was a Peer and who commissioned the painting and paid almost 50 guineas...a fortune in those days. He expected his son, young Charles Lamton to inherit his title and estates but sadly he died before his Father, and his younger brother received the inheritance.
During the 1960's and at other times during different periods of jewellery making it was normal for manufacturers to look back in time for inspiration. This vintage brooch is very likely to be a 1960's piece when nostalgia was prominent. The little picture of "The Red Boy", copied probably by transfer printing and put under a perspex frame. There is a lovely oval gold tone framed around that.Measurement is 5cms x 4cms with roll in safety clasp. In excellent condition, and gift boxed by Vintageonline.
