Silver & Marcasite Vintage Shell Cameo Brooch

An intricate carving which is likely to be Athena Goddess of War, resplendent in her carriage wearing her helmet and brandishing her shield and spear.  Athena was a mythical Goddess often depicted in cameos, although more often carved with only head and shoulders. The cameo is set in to a silver frame embellished with marcasite. There is a silver mark to the back along with a firm roll over safety clasp. This particular clasp was developed during the late 1920's so the brooch is likely to be from the period 30's - 40's. Dimension is 4.5cms x 3.5cms and in excellent condition.
