Mizpah Sweetheart Vintage Brooch
The word Mizpah is hebrew for watchtower. The written phrase on the second heart follows the mention in the Bible, Book of Genesis. It has come to represent an emotional bond between two people and the double heart Mizpah brooch has been produced since the middle of the 19th century. During Victorian times it was mainly produced in silver and gold. During the first world war this particular brooch presented here was reproduced in the cheaper base brass tone metal and was affordable to the many sweethearts separated by the war.
This sweet example is in excellent condition, with a little wear to the back. There is the traditional C clasp. Overall dimension is 35mm x 20mm. Gift boxed for a special valentine by Vintageonline.
