Art Deco Brooch, 1920's Signed Little Nemo (USA)
Czechoslovakia was producing wonderful costume jewellery in the first half of the 20th Century. In 1913 in America similar looking jewellery began to be produced by Brier Manufacturing, located in the US area producing quality costume jewellery - Providence, Rhode Island.
This lovely art deco style brooch is marked LN/25. This is the signature for Little Nemo, although it is unknown what the 25 means. Little Nemo was a popular comic strip character of the time. The Company became the second largest producer of costume jewellery in America, second only to the Coro company. Benjamin Brier and Sam Magid started the company and it was succesfull for many years, unfortunately ending in bankruptcy in 1965. The Little Cartoon strip of Little Nemo had ended long before in 1926, so the late 20's early 30's is likely the period when the art deco look jewellery was produced.
