Carved Horn Vintage Butterfly Brooch

Popular from about 1855 to 1914 during the Art Nouveau period, horn jewellery was created by artisans at a time when craftsmen were seeking out innovative materials and designs. The production of carved horn jewellery continued, and this is a lovely perfect example. Polished and carved to perfection, in the shape of a butterfly. More likely a later piece from closer to mid century. Measurement across the wingspan is 7cms. Length of the butterfly is 5cms. In perfect condition with a gold tone barrel clasp to the back.
