Cameo of Bacchus-God of Wine
Cameos have been around since Egyptian times and from time to time throughout history have re-emerged in areas of both real i.e. gold and coral etc. and in the later periods like the 1960's when the resurgence turned to the newer materials of celluloid, lucite, and other plastics.
This cameo sits in the later category and sits in a rolled gold frame. The finely carved head resembles Bacchus, the God of Wine, depicted by his headdress. He was a mythical god way back in history, and was thought to be responsible for good harvests bringing happiness and enjoyment to the people.
The back of the cameo has been been over painted in gold. The brooch is perfect from the front, with a C clasp pin. Gift boxed by Vintageonline.
