Aurora Borealis Bead Vintage Brooch
The aurora borealis coating on beads was developed in 1955 after a collaboration between Dior and Swarovski. The coating enhanced beads with a rainbow of colours and so named after the northern lights. This is a pretty example set in silver tone metal. I have seen these brooches attributed to the Australian Designer Ronald Simpson, or Jewelcraft, but I find no research to support this particular design and although he did produce jewellery with aurora borealis so did other jewellery companies of the time. Measurement on this lovely brooch is 5.5cms x 2.5cms. It is in excellent condition with a firm roll over safety clasp to the back. Each of the aurora borealis beads is vibrant.
