Art Deco Paste Rhinestone Bow Brooch
A pot metal jewel with paste stones from the early 20th century. This was a time when the combined use of pot metal and paste stones was used in costume jewellery to emulate the precious metals and diamonds. Paste is a special type of flint glass that emulates the real gemstones, and pot metal was the cheap alternative to silver and gold. Together they gave the look without the price tag, and are now a lovely piece of vintage history. This lovely example is from the pre World War 11 period. The roll over safety catch which it has to the back was developed in the 1920's - 1930's period. The metal cross pin has been replaced and it works firmly. Overall dimension is 5cms x 5.5cms. It is in good condition considering it is nearing its century. Gift boxed by Vintageonline. It sparkles more than the photograph suggests. Paste is often more difficult to photograph.
