Antique Victorian C 1880 Carved Whitby Jet Brooch

Such a beautiful example of Whitby Jet from the late 1880's.   So special and collectable with the head of a beautiful lady in Roman headpiece carved in to the jet then highly polished. Set with brass fixing including a firm C shaped pin to the back. Quite substantial in size at 5.5cms x 5.5cms. It is in remarkably good condition for its almost 150 years age Whitby was world renowned for its production of jet jewellery which was produced from an abundance of fossilized wood found in the area from hundreds of years ago.
