Antique Victorian Bog Oak Bracelet
A substantial victorian bog oak bracelet in perfect vintage condition. "Bog Oak" was one of the "black" materials produced for mourning jewellery in the later victorian era after the death of Queen Victoria's husband Prince Albert. Other substances used were jet, gutta percha, vulcanite and french jet. The bog oak is fossilized wood or peat found in Ireland. It is a very dark brownish-black, and has a woody texture.This bog oak bracelet has been highly polished giving it a "modern" or "deco" look.Measurement - 4 3/4cms in width, and it is elasticated for flexibility of size.
