Antique Edwardian Porcelain Portrait Brooch
The portraits of ladies used in sentimental jewellery has been popular for the past centuries. This is a gorgeous example, recently arrived from an American estate sale, and is likely to have originated in France. Although not signed by Limoges, it was the epicentre for the production of this type of jewellery and other companies alongside Limoges also produced. It is likely to be dated to the early 20th century, during the Edwardian - Georgian period. There is a large oval porcelain disc with a transfer process and hand painted accents. The lady has the look of the 18th century, the time of Marie Antoinette. Her hair is piled high with pale blue feathers and she wears a pale blue gown. She is very beautiful. The edge of the brooch has hand painted gilding giving a touch of extravagance to the classical frame. Overall dimension is 6.5cms x 5.5cms. In very good condition. There is a brass plate back and C shaped clasp. Romance of the past, combined with beautiful artistry. Gift boxed by Vintageonline. Free express postage within Australia.
