1960's Camphor Glass Silver Pendant
Camphor glass was made to imitate carved rock crystal quartz which was very popular from mid 19th century until the 1930's. Revival of the look by producing faux art deco style in camphor glass became popular post mid century around the late 1960's - early 1970's.In order to imitate camphor glass the jewellery artist would cut the glass to desired shape and treat with hydrofluoric acid to etch the surface and give the cloud like effect. The camphor glass pendant is framed with silver filigree and centred with a small rhinestone. The silver chain is marked Marvel Sterling. The chain is likely a later addition to the pendant. The pendant measures 2.5cm x 2cms. It is in very good condition with 20cm silver chain. Original rock crystal pendants looking very similar to their mid century counterparts were generally made from white gold or platinum with a central diamond. The art deco style gives much versatility to the wearing, beautifully crafted and appropriate for a 1920's look or a mid century look. Gift boxed by Vintageonline.
