1950's Vintage Butterfly Wing Earrings
Butterfly wing jewellery was very popular from the Art Deco period through to the 1960's It became so popular that butterfly farms were set up across Europe specifically for the production of the jewellery. Butterfly eggs were taken from the forests and hatched in the farms. The butterfly then had its natural lifespan and the wings were collected. Sometimes jewellery was produced with just the wings and often there were reverse carved paintings over them. That is the case with this lovely pair of vintage earrings with a beach scene painted over the butterfly wing. The blue is stunning. Overall dimension is 2cms across, set in silver tone metal with screw back mechanism. In excellent condition, gift boxed by Vintageonline.
