1940's Cameo Brooch
Cameos have been popular for a long long time, and during the first half of the last century most women would have at least one in their jewellery box. For those who could not afford the gorgeous gold Victorian ones there were a large number made from other materials . This one is a substantial size at 5cms x 4cms. The cameo itself is made from one of the many utilitarian plastics that were around at the time. It is possibly lucite, but without touching it, it looks like ivorine- the sort of thing many dressing table sets were being made out of. The pale creamy colour is gorgeous and the carving of her curls in Roman style makes her quite beautiful. There is a brasstone frame around her, and the back of the brooch is also brasstone with a firm pin. Gift boxed for giving.
