1920's Art Deco Carved Celluloid Brooch
$44.00
Celluloid was a very early plastic and was utilized in the production of a range of these intricately carved brooches mainly produced in France during the 1920's. This one is not signed although they are often signed France Depose, which simply means Hand made in France. They were often souvenir brooches and this one depicts a three D effect showing church steeple above the roof tops, vegetation, and two cranes. Overall dimension is 5cms x 4cms. It has the look of bone or an organic product. Very clever that it could be carved from celluloid. A creamy colour with brass coloured frame. To the back there is a firm trombone clasp, typical of the era. In very good pre loved condition, gift boxed by Vintageonlined.
