The Company was started by Michael & Jay Chernow in Providence, Rhode Island, USA in 1929. Originally called Monocraft, the name was changed to MONET in 1937.

The Company is still producing today, and so has been in operation for over 70 years. It is the vintage period of the 1930’s and 1940’s that produced some of the most beautiful and collectable pieces. Monet jewellery’s original designs were of the art modern design…sitting on the edge of the art deco designs with a unique twist of their own. Monet is responsible for the original friction ear clip, and the barrel clutch used for pierced earrings.

After 1955 the MONET trademark is found on all pieces of jewellery.  During the 1980’s Monet produced a wide range of jewellery for Yves St. Laurent.

In 2000 Liz Clairborne bought the Monet jewellery line and continues to produce the Monet jewellery line. This continues today, and the current lines can be found in major department stores.  It is however, the beautiful vintage pieces that are the most collectable.
